REIKI

EVERY LIVING BEING ON EARTH IS SUSTAINED BY A DEEP WELL OF ENERGY. IN EASTERN MEDICINE THIS LIFE FORCE IS CALLED QI AND ITS FLOW IS SEEN AS CRUCIAL TO ONE’S HEALTH.

Reiki, a hands-on healing technique from Japan, is one of the most gentle and effective methods of energy therapy practiced today. Developed in the early 1900s by Buddhist Mikao Usui, reiki comes from the composite words rei (spirit) and ki (life force). This subtle medicine works similarly to acupuncture; by placing the hands on or above specific energy centers like the chakras, reiki can stimulate the movement of qi throughout the body, shifting long-held blockages and helping to release emotional trauma, relieve physical illness, and promote a sustained inner peace. As human beings we are not only made up of energy but we are conduits of energy as well.

For deep and transformational healing to take place, we must nourish all aspects of the self. In conventional Western medicine the body is isolated from the spirit, but in Eastern medicine, they are one in the same. When we are wounded by life, we are not just physically hurt, but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually injured as well. Our natural state is one of harmony but this kind of trauma can disrupt our normal flow of being, causing imbalance and impeding our ability to heal. Reiki helps to restimulate our inherent state of health by directing energy to places in the body that need revitalization, movement, and support.

Reiki is an incredible stepping-stone for self-transformation; it provides a doorway through which any person can embark upon a distinctly individual path of whole healing.

Reiki can be a powerful experience. As human beings we are not only made up of energy but we are conduits of energy as well. Over my years of practicing reiki, I have witnessed dramatic shifts in physical and emotional wellbeing. Tingling, warmth, pulsating relaxation and the gentle release of long-held chronic tension are common. I have had people report entering deep meditative states and even encountering visions described as past lives or spirit guidance. Animals love reiki as well. When I work on pets they often relax immediately into a semi-conscious state of relief. Reiki has the incredible ability to uncover reservoirs of inner wisdom, illuminating what is needed for further healing. It can bring important life lessons to the surface, helping us to make healthy decisions and learn to be freer, happier, and more centered.

When I close a session with both hands on the receiver’s feet, they often experience a familiar and comforting rush of energy moving up through their entire body. Whenever someone shares this with me, it always reaffirms what I feel to be the most beautiful and basic tenant of all energetic medicine— that each of us has everything we need to heal within, and around us, at all times. A reiki session is not just a dialogue between the practitioner and the client, it is a conversation between the receiver and themselves. Reiki is an incredible stepping-stone for self-transformation; it provides a doorway through which any person can embark upon a distinctly individual path of whole healing.
