are not for pussies

If you are looking at all aspects of your life that may be in danger of toxic contamination, your vagina is no place to stop looking. What you are putting in or near your vagina every month may be laden with chemicals! Your tampons and panty liners may need a closer examination.

Nowadays we find it very natural to check the packages of food products, cosmetics and clothing to know what a product is made with, but in most instances this is not the case for tampons, pads and panty liners, considering these are products that most women use monthly near or in one of the most absorbent parts of their body. Founders of YONI knew it was time for a change. Mariah Mansvelt Beck and Wendelien Hebly aim to keep chemicals away from vaginas globally.

YONI specializes in organic cotton tampons, pads & panty liners, offering you the choice. The toxic-free option.

Even though these two fierce founders are located in Amsterdam their message rings loud and clear across the world. The reason this passion for a completely sanitary napkin began was with the threat of impending doom. Turning 30 Mariah found out that she was developing cervical cancer, this propelled her to go in search of ways to support her health. She met with one specialist who advised her to start using organic cotton tampons and pads. Mariah agonized at the thought of searching for organic cotton tampons? But together with Wendelien they started to do some in-depth research. They found out that most tampons and pads currently on the shelves include ingredients that should not be put in a highly sensitive environment, and that fall under the general EU product regulation: This meant that there are no specific rules on what’s allowed in these personal care products, or what should or should not be mentioned on the packaging.

Mariah and Wendelien developed Yoni Care: Tampons, pads and panty liners that are made of organic cotton. The backing and individual wrapping of the pads and panty liners is made of bio-plastic derived from corn starch. They chose cotton since cotton breathes and is hypo-allergenic. This means it doesn’t create irritation or vaginal infections like synthetic products can.

The great news is that even after Mariah's diagnosis and operation, she had a healthy baby girl without any complications, yay!!

Keeping healthy from the inside out is also very important to Team Yoni. Here is a great smoothie recipe full of health benefits and a great to kick-starter for the Summer. Enjoy!

Pink Smoothie

Beet, strawberries, avocado, and lemon unite to create one kick-butt, surprisingly delicious, bright pink smoothie! This creamy & thick smoothie is not overly sweet - it's more on the tart side thanks to juice from a whole lemon. If you prefer sweeter smoothies, I suggest adding an apple to the mix or your preferred liquid sweetener. I also suggest using a small to medium sized beet, anything larger and the earthy beet might overpower the other flavors. Consider gently steaming the beet until tender before blending if you don't have a Vitamix or other capable blender. I just use the beet raw because I know my blender can handle it. Best to be safe than sorry if you are unsure!
